MD Logic, a leader in electronic health record (EHR/PM) technology, has announced its plan to phase out support for clients who run MD Logic EHR Software on their on-premise servers by the end of 2025. This strategic decision is driven by the growing challenges medical and surgical practices face in maintaining and securing their in-house servers against malware, ransomware, and other cyber threats.
With an increasing number of healthcare practices finding it difficult to make the necessary investments in IT infrastructure, MD Logic provides a secure, reliable, and cost-effective cloud solution. The shift to the MD Logic EHR Cloud platform allows practices to focus on patient care without the significant burden of maintaining expensive IT equipment.
Challenges of On-Premise Server Management
As cyber threats become more sophisticated, many practices lack the resources to adequately protect their on-premise servers. Most medical and surgical practices are unable to keep up with the complex, ever-evolving world of cybersecurity. Implementing advanced firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and frequent server updates is not only resource-intensive but often cost-prohibitive for practices that need to focus their time and finances on patient care.
Practices that rely on in-house servers face increased risks, including:
- Vulnerability to Malware and Ransomware: Without adequate security protocols, on-premise servers are at high risk for cyberattacks.
- Significant IT Costs: Maintaining in-house servers requires continuous investment in hardware, software, and skilled IT staff.
- Downtime Risks: Server failures due to security breaches can lead to significant downtime, disrupting the practice and jeopardizing patient data.
The Benefits of Upgrading to MD Logic EHR Cloud
MD Logic EHR Cloud offers a comprehensive solution for practices looking to enhance security, reduce costs, and improve overall efficiency. By upgrading to MD Logic’s cloud-based platform, practices can enjoy numerous benefits, including:
- Enhanced Security: The MD Logic Cloud is equipped with state-of-the-art security measures, including encryption, automated backups, and 24/7 monitoring by experts to protect patient data from the latest cyber threats.
- Cost Savings: Practices can eliminate the need for costly in-house servers, IT infrastructure, and dedicated technical staff, leading to significant long-term savings.
- Scalability and Flexibility: MD Logic EHR Cloud is designed to grow with your practice. Whether you’re expanding your office or adding new providers, the cloud platform easily adapts to your needs.
- Reduced Downtime: With built-in redundancy and real-time updates, the cloud platform ensures minimal disruption, allowing practices to maintain smooth operations even during updates.
- Compliance and Data Recovery: MD Logic EHR Cloud includes advanced disaster recovery features to protect data and ensure it remains accessible, even in the face of unforeseen events.
- Remote Accessibility: MD Logic EHR Cloud allows providers and staff to access the system securely from any location, facilitating telehealth services and improving workflow efficiency.
As the healthcare industry increasingly transitions to cloud-based technologies, MD Logic is committed to providing a seamless, secure, and innovative EHR solution that allows practices to focus on delivering exceptional patient care.
“We have been offering server solutions since 1998” said Thomas J. Bierster, Jr., Founder and CEO of MD Logic. “MD Logic began offering cloud solutions to our clients back in 2010. This way a practice could determine if a server solution or a cloud solution was best for the clinic. We officially ended licensing new server solutions back in 2017. As clients with in-house servers confirmed their servers needed to be replaced, these clients have transitioned to the MD Logic EHR Cloud. We still have a small percentage of clients that continue to operate an in-houser sever to run MD Logic. Our goal is to transition the remaining MD Logic server clients to the MD Logic EHR Cloud by the end of 2025. Clients that make the switch from server to cloud are amazed at the speed and stability offered in the MD Logic EHR Cloud. In addition, ending the support of client servers will further enhance client support by ending the need for our support teams in having to access 3rd party servers.”
What’s Next?
MD Logic will continue to work with clients currently running on-premise servers to ensure a smooth transition to the cloud by the end of 2025. Practices interested in upgrading to MD Logic EHR Cloud are encouraged to contact MD Logic support for more information and assistance with the migration process.
