The Second Time is the Charm

For the past 5 years, the Orthopedic Surgeons at Willis-Knighton in Shreveport Louisiana struggled to utilize their Electronic Health Record (EHR) software. This premier clinic, that provides state of the art Orthopedic care consisting of 16 Orthopedic surgeons, quickly found that templates and drop-down pick lists were not the answer for a high volume Orthopedic Clinic. There was limited success with the old EHR software and the doctors continued to look for a better technology to be used in the clinic. It was at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons conference that several of the doctors were first introduced to MD Logic and our time saving EHR solutions.

Since the introduction to MD Logic at the Orthopaedic conference several years had passed. During this time multiple onsite meetings, discussions, software demonstrations and finally an onsite visit to a MD Logic customer site by several of the Willis-Knighton physicians was completed. In January 2013 the Willis-Knighton Orthopedic Clinic made the decision to drop their existing EHR and implement the MD Logic World Wide EHR™.

In May 2013, the first round of physicians went live with the MD Logic World Wide EHR™. During the first week of onsite training, MD Logic corporate trainers worked with both doctors and staff to review the MD Logic EHR software and prepare the clinic for going live the following week. For week number 2 the first wave of physicians went live with MD Logic. During week number 2 (go live week) these Orthopedic Surgeons documented 100% of their clinical visits with MD Logic software.

In addition, the entire workflow of the clinic was automated using the MD Logic Command Center™. From the time a patient checked in for their appointment until the patient was walked back to the exam room, the MD Logic Command Center™ controlled the entire workflow of the clinic. When an x-ray was needed, the doctor or staff would simply touch the screen and the x-ray tech was immediately notified of the patient, location of the exam room and type of x-ray requested. Once the x-ray was completed by the x-ray tech the doctor and the staff were automatically notified that the patient x-ray was completed and the patient was back in the exam room and ready to be seen.

During the first week of going live several of the doctors decided to implement the MD Logic Patient Kiosk and automate the collection of the patient’s health history. This technology eliminates the need for a patient to fill out a medical history form and automates the capture of the patient’s health history. A patient can be handed an Apple iPad to touch in their health history using the MD Logic Patient Kiosk software. Using this innovative technology will save both the doctors and staff time by eliminating the need to manually re-enter health data from a paper form. Week number two (go live week) was a complete success and not only met but surpassed the clinic goals. What MD Logic accomplished in 2 weeks...the other EHR could not accomplish in four years!
