What to do with all those CDs for MRI and CTs Brought in by Patients?

12 October 2014

MD Logic, the leader in high performance EHR solutions, has been busy testing our new DICOM storage app scheduled for early deployment starting in December 2014. The software development of our DICOM app will give our customers the option to store CDs brought in by their patients.

Like most clinics in this country, not all MRI or CT scans are generated in the physician’s office. It is more common that not for a patient to carry in a CD for their doctor’s visit then having the DICOM image readily online for the doctor to view. This is very common for areas of the country where competition dictates a great number of MRI centers based around the doctor’s office. Regardless of the size and concentration of MRI centers in your areas, all clinics still face the ongoing problem of what to do with all of those patient CDs. Even with today’s technology, the vast majority of physicians simply pop-in the CD, view the images and then hand the CD back to the patient. In this case the doctor is relying on the patient to remember to bring in the CD for subsequent visits.

Clinics typically store these CDs in a box. Doing so is not secure and would most likely fail a HIPPA audit. Regardless clinics have been saving patient CDs in boxes for years. With MD Logic, our new DICOM storage app will allow our customers to save the patient CD in the MD Logic EHR software. Our new DICOM app is extremely simple to implement and will enable MD Logic customers to eliminate storing CDs in boxes.
