Grace Period for ICD-10 ends October 1, 2016

31 July 2016

It seems like only yesterday that all healthcare providers in the United States were apprehensive and worried about having to begin coding using ICD-10 back on October 1, 2015. The good news for many was the agreement by Medicare and several other private payers to delay denial of claims and suspend chart audits based on lack of specificity of the ICD–10 code(s). Beginning October 1, 2016 this “grace period” ends. The question for many is what should you do now?

As the leading U.S. provider of high performance electronic health records and practice management (PM) solutions, MD Logic is the only EHR Company that has truly simplified the transition from ICD-9 to ICD-10 allowing healthcare professionals to focus their time on treating patients. As a healthcare technology company, we place emphasis on developing software that is both intuitive and extremely simple for Physicians, PAs, NPs and PTs. The true benefit of MD Logic is more time with patients and less time struggling with non-productive EHR technology.

Beginning on October, 1, 2016, Medicare will end the “grace period” and require more definitive diagnosis codes and will no longer accept family codes or codes that are “unspecified”. For the vast majority of EHR users, this will result in claim denials and a reduced cash flow from payers. The MD Logic EHR software is designed to identify codes that are not being billed to the highest level of specificity and prompt the Physicians, PAs, NPs and PTs to choose an appropriate Dx code. For MD Logic customers, October, 1, 2016 will be business as usual.

If your clinic is tired of dealing with ICD-10 and would rather spend that time seeing patients, then maybe it’s time to implement technology designed to increase efficiency and practice revenue.
